Hokkaido cops: 2 men likely leaped to their deaths from bridge

HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police on Tuesday announced that they are treating the discovery of two male corpses in a river in Noboribetsu City to be the result of suicides, reports Nikkan Sports (April 5).

Officers from the Muroran Police Station said that two male corpses, believed to be aged between 20 and 50, have been found in the Noboribetsu River in the town of Satsunaicho.

Police found one corpse during a search of the river that began after receiving a tip about the discovery a vehicle belonging to a man who had been reported missing. After one corpse was found in the river, another was discovered thereafter.

Police suspect that both men leaped to their death from the Shin Noboribetsu Great Bridge, which stands 120 meters above the Noboribetsu River.

It is estimated that both persons died up to a month ago.

Police do not believe that there is a connection between the two deaths.
