Gifu cops: Nude corpse found in river

GIFU (TR) – Gifu Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a male corpse in a river in a forested area of Gero City, reports the Chunichi Shimbun (July 18).

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Monday, a fisherman tipped off police about a fully nude male corpse floating face-up in the Mazenishimura area of the Maze River.

Officers from the Gero Police Station arriving at the scene found the body, measuring 160 centimeters in height, caught on a rock in the river.

According to police, the body did not have any significant external wounds. Police are now attempting to identify the body and determine the cause of death.

The body was found about seven kilometers from the Mazenamaru town office. The area regularly attracts fisherman seeking to catch ayu, or sweetfish.
