Fukuoka cops: Man arrested after shooting at restaurant leaves 1 wounded

FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police have made an arrest following a shooting in a restaurant in the town of Shime that left one male customer injured, reports Nippon News Network (Mar. 14).

At around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, a man shot a 67-year-old male acquaintance in the head with a pistol after an argument erupted inside the restaurant. The gunman then fled the scene on foot.

The victim was rushed a local hospital where he is receiving treatment. His condition is not serious.

About 90 minutes later, police arrested a man who was in possession of an automatic pistol in a parking lot in the town of Sue, which is about three kilometers away from the scene of the shooting. The man, who matched descriptions provided by eyewitnesses, was apprehended by police after he exited a taxi.

The suspect, who has refused to divulge his identity, was charged with violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law.

About 30 minutes before the incident, the victim arrived at the restaurant with the man. Both men, who were visibly drunk at the time, began arguing after taking seats at the counter. The man then produced a pistol and shot the victim near the entrance with a single bullet, according to the Yomiuri Shimbun (Mar. 14).

Police plan to apply charges of attempted murder to the suspect.
