YAMANASHI (TR) – Yamanashi Prefectural Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the bodies of an elderly couple inside their residence, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Feb. 27).
On Sunday at 10:10 a.m., the blood-covered bodies of Masuo Sandai, 83, and his wife Setsuko, 81, were discovered by their daughter inside the home they share in Fujikawaguchiko.
Both bodies, which were found in separate rooms, exhibited multiple external wounds consistent with that of stab wounds, police said.
The couple is estimated to have died within the past few days. A murder weapon has yet to be found.
The scene of the crime is located approximately 200 meters from a tourist area that includes a hotel.
According to TBS News (Feb. 28), police are now viewing security camera footage taken in the nearby area as a part of the investigation.
Update: The couple’s grandson was arrested on Monday for the crime, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Sep. 28).
