Shizuoka man arrested after corpse of mother found in Hamamatsu home

SHIZUOKA (TR) – Shizuoka Prefectural Police have arrested a 57-year-old after the body of an elderly woman was found in his house in Hamamatsu City.

Police believe the deceased is the elderly mother of suspect Masakazu Onoki. They shared the residence, reports NHK (Mar. 12).

During questioning on suspicion of abandoning a corpse, Onoki admitted to the charges. “I left my mother’s body there,” he said. “There was nothing I could do.”

On the afternoon of March 11, a representative from the city’s Community Comprehensive Support Center visited the suspect’s residence in Chuo Ward to check on his mother, age 87.

However, the representative contacted police after being unable to receive a response.

When police investigated, they found the body of a woman lying on a bed inside. The body had no visible external injuries. It is believed that she had died less than six months ago.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
