Saitama doctor accused of defamation after posting about ex-fiance’s break-up demand for ¥10 million

SAITAMA (TR) – As Neil Sedaka sang six decades ago, “Breaking up is hard to do.” It can also be expensive — at least, that was the case for one doctor in Saitama City, reports Fuji News Network (Sep. 19).

Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested Tatsuya Sakuma, a 37-year-old doctor at a cosmetic dermatology clinic, on suspicion of defamation.

According to police, Sakuma posted a photo of his ex-fiance, aged in her 30s, on social media and wrote, “This woman has demanded 10 million yen in compensation from her ex-boyfriend for the unjust annulment of their engagement.”

During questioning, Sakuma admitted to the allegations, police said.

The incident came to light in July when the woman contacted the police, saying that “someone had posted about me online.”
