IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly hitting an elementary school girl with a metal pipe in a park in the town of Ami.
At around 3:30 p.m. on October 13, Kotaro Nagai, of no known occupation, allegedly used the pipe to strike the head of the second-year elementary school girl, aged 8, as she played with a friend, reports NHK (Oct. 14).
The metal pipe measures around 10 centimeters in diameter and one meter in length. The girl did not suffer any visible external injuries, police said.
The suspect, who lives in the same town, admitted to allegations of assault during questioning.
There were about 30 adults and children in the park at the time of the incident. Just before, the victim was playing with a friend. A woman who witnessed the assault called police. Officers who arrived arrested Nagai on the spot.
The suspect was not acquainted with the girl before the incident. Police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
