TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 66-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a rent collector with a survival knife at his apartment in Nishitokyo City, reports Nippon News Network (Sep. 8).
At around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Katsuji Kondo allegedly attacked a man in his 40s who had visited his apartment in the Hibarigaokakita area to collect unpaid rent. Kondo stabbed the victim in the abdomen multiple times using both a survival knife and a kitchen knife, according to police.
Officers apprehended Kondo at the scene. Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, the suspect admitted to the allegations, police said.
Kondo, who had fallen into arrears on his rent, was scheduled to vacate the property that same day. An altercation broke out between the two men upon the collector’s arrival, quickly escalating into the violent assault.
The victim was conscious while being transported to a local hospital for treatment.
