Tokyo teacher dismissed for having sex with teen student two decades ago

TOKYO (TR) – The Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education has dismissed a 53-year-old high school teacher who admitted to having sexual relations with a female student more than two decades ago, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Sep. 2).

The senior teacher, who worked at a metropolitan high school in Tokyo’s 23 wards, engaged in sexual acts with the teenage girl between November 2001 and March 2004.

The illicit relationship only came to light recently after the former student finally came forward to report the abuse.

Upon being confronted with the allegations, the teacher admitted to the acts. “I am deeply sorry for profoundly hurting her with my actions,” he was quoted as saying. He was handed a disciplinary discharge on the 2nd.

The board also announced disciplinary actions against two other school employees on the same day.

A 48-year-old senior teacher at a special education school was slapped with a six-month suspension for groping a female passenger on a Tokyo train. During his commute in October, the man rubbed the woman’s thigh over her clothes. He has since resigned from his post.

Additionally, a 32-year-old administrative clerk at a high school in the 23 wards received a six-month suspension for shoplifting. Over a two-day period in June, the clerk stole three eyeglass frames valued at a total of 148,500 yen from a shop inside a commercial complex.
