Nara man bludgeoned sister with 4-kg dumbbell over anime figurines

NARA (TR) – Nara Prefectural Police have arrested a 26-year-old care worker for allegedly assaulting his older sister with a heavy dumbbell at their residence in in Yamatotakada City following a dispute over noise and anime merchandise, reports TV Asahi (Aug. 31).

Yoshinori Honma was arrested at the scene after striking his sister, who is in her 30s, in the back of the head multiple times with a 4-kilogram dumbbell on August 29.

“I hit her thinking I didn’t care if she died,” Honma told police.

According to investigators, the suspect’s sister entered his room to complain multiple times that the volume of his videos and video games was too loud. When Honma ignored her warnings, she retaliated by knocking his anime character figurines off a display shelf.

“My patience snapped,” Honma reportedly stated. Enraged by the destruction of his figurines, he pushed his sister to the ground before retrieving the dumbbell and bludgeoning her.

During questioning, Honma also cited a history of bad blood as a contributing factor to the brutal attack, telling officers, “I have been constantly made a fool of by my sister.”

The victim was rushed to a hospital bleeding from her head wounds. Police have confirmed that her injuries are not life-threatening.
