Saitama police probing IC card theft find skeletonized remains of suspect’s mother

SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a 56-year-old unemployed man after making a grisly discovery: a skeletonized corpse sitting inside his home during a search for a minor theft, reports Fuji News Network (Aug. 30).

Tomohisa Konishi was taken into custody on suspicion of corpse abandonment at his residence in Kawaguchi City.

According to investigators, police were originally searching Konishi’s home over allegations that he had pocketed a lost IC transit card. During the course of that investigation, officers stumbled upon the skeletal remains.

Police believe the remains belong to Konishi’s mother, who had previously resided with him.

During questioning, Konishi admitted to the allegations. “My mother passed away a few years ago, but I didn’t know what I was supposed to do, so I just left her as she was,” he told investigators.

Police are continuing to investigate the exact time and cause of the woman’s death.
