AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested three teenage boys accused of stealing fire extinguishers and using them to attack a local police station in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse, reports Kansai TV (Aug. 28).
The suspects, who include a 17-year-old high school student and a 14-year-old junior high school student from Kasugai City, were tracked down and identified through security camera footage, police said.
According to investigators, the incident took place in July. The boys allegedly stole multiple fire extinguishers from local parks and brought them to a police station, where they sprayed the contents at the building. As officers initiated a pursuit, the teens hurled the heavy metal canisters at the chasing patrol cars while fleeing the scene on bicycles.
During questioning, all three suspects admitted to the allegations.
According to police, the boys referred to their stunt of baiting and fleeing from police vehicles as a game they called “Pato-run” (Patrol-run).
Showing little remorse for the vandalism and danger caused, the boys told investigators they committed the acts purely for entertainment, stating, “Running away was super fun.”
