TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested two Chilean men in connection with the theft of luxury watches worth 200 million yen from a store in Nakano Ward earlier this week, reports Nippon News Network (Aug. 27).
On Tuesday, the duo allegedly targeted a watch dealer inside the famous Nakano Broadway shopping complex, making off with four high-end timepieces before fleeing the scene.
According to investigators, the suspects utilized a coordinated escape strategy. Immediately following the brazen heist, the two men fled separately — one making his getaway on an electric scooter and the other sprinting away on foot. They later regrouped and disappeared into the crowds heading toward Nakano Station.
Following a nationwide manhunt, police tracked the perpetrators, identified as Chilean nationals in their 20s and 30s, all the way to Osaka City. They were secured and placed under arrest on suspicion of theft.
Authorities are currently transferring the two men back to a police precinct in Tokyo for rigorous questioning to uncover the full scope of the crime.
