SHIZUOKA (TR) – Police in Fuji City have arrested a 68-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of relentlessly stalking a female acquaintance in her 90s, reports SBS (June 27).
The suspect, a resident of the Iwabuchi area of Fuji City, was taken into custody on June 27 for alleged violations of the Anti-Stalking Act.
According to police, the man is accused of making a continuous string of phone calls to the elderly victim’s mobile phone on multiple occasions between June 13 and June 26.
Authorities revealed that the suspect had previously been issued a formal warning by police for stalking the exact same woman.
The arrest was triggered on June 26 after the terrified victim contacted authorities to report, “I received a phone call from the man.” Following a brief investigation, officers moved in to apprehend the suspect.
Police have declined to disclose whether the man has admitted to the allegations, citing that releasing such information could hinder the ongoing investigation.
