EHIME (TR) – Ehime Prefectural Police have arrested a 75-year-old man on suspicion of stalking a woman in her 60s who had rejected his advances, reports TV Asahi (Apr. 3).
The suspect, an unmarried farmer from Seiyo City who lives alone, is accused of repeatedly sending letters containing highly aggressive and “abusive language” to the victim.
According to police, the two were acquaintances. The ordeal began when the man showed up at the woman’s residence to deliver letters, despite her explicit demands that he leave her alone. “Don’t get involved with me,” she reportedly told him.
The frightened woman consulted a local police box about the unwanted visits. However, even after police intervened, the suspect continued to mail threatening letters to her home.
Fearing the situation could escalate into a violent crime due to the extreme hostility in the letters, police arrested the man on April 2. Investigators believe his actions stemmed from unrequited romantic feelings for the victim.
Upon his arrest, the suspect admitted to the allegations. “There is no mistake in what I did, and I have no excuses,” he was quoted as saying.
Locals who knew the suspect expressed shock over his arrest. “I never thought he was the type of person to do something like this,” one acquaintance said.
