OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a man after he allegedly drove his car with an officer clinging to the the hood in Kishiwada City, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Jan. 8).
Just before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the driver was traveling through the Kishiwada Ekimae-dori Shopping Arcade despite a ban on vehicles.
In security camera footage shot in the area, the officer appears to ask him to stop. However, the slowly moving car suddenly accelerates toward the officer. As it makes a right turn, the officer jumps on the hood.
With the police officer banging on the windshield, the driver continued for about 700 meters. Eventually, the driver shook the officer off the hood.
The officer suffered minor injuries, including a scraped knee. The drive fled the scene.
Police later accused Yasunori Kubo, 40, of attempted murder and obstruction of justice. “I’m certain I did it, but I had no intent to kill him,” Kubo was quoted.
Kubo was also reportedly driving without a driver’s license.
At the time, an elderly woman was in the passenger seat. Police are seeking her whereabouts. the car believed to be involved in the incident was found abandoned in neighboring Kaizuka City.
