IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police on Thursday arrested a 59-year-old man for dumping the body of his mother at their residence in Bando City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Sep. 25).

In August, Toru Furuya dug a hole in the garden outside their home, located in the Mitate area, and buried the body of his 95-year-old mother.

“My mother died in late August, so I buried her body in the yard,” the suspect is quoted by police.

According to police, the woman’s body was clothed and exhibited no signs of external injuries.

Relatives had been unable to contact the Furuya’s mother for approximately one month. On Wednesday, the relatives consulted with police after the suspect falsely claimed she was with his older brother. The following day, police used testimony from the suspect to uncover the corpse of his mother.
