NARA (TR) – Nara Prefectural Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of an 85-year-old man from Wakayama Precture for repeatedly stalking a woman, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (June 10).

Between November 6 and 23 of last year, Takeo Shinda is alleged to have left a number of messages on the mobile phone of the woman, 80, in which he said he was waiting in front of her home in Nara. The suspect then entered the victim’s home on May 2.

“I wanted to meet her,” Shinda is quoted by police in admitting the allegations.

After enduring repeated harassment last year, the woman consulted with police. In October, officers spoke to the man. He was given a written warning three months later.

The suspect, a resident of Hashimoto City, met the woman several years ago while she shared the same hospital room with his wife, who passed away last year, according to the Asahi Shimbun (June 10).
