TOKYO (TR) – This week, weekly tabloid Shukan Bunshun dropped a bombshell: Television personality Sarina Suzuki, 47, had been dating a married man.
The man in question, aged in his 50s, operates a business with its headquarters in Aichi Prefecture. Suzuki was living with him in a high-rise apartment in the capital, but he has a wife and children in Aichi Prefecture.
When Suzuki was told by Bunshun that her boyfriend has a wife and children, she was shocked. “What?” she said. “That’s a lie, that’s a lie.” With tears in her eyes, she went on, “I had heard from him that he was divorced. There’s no way he is having an affair.”
Evening tabloid Nikkan Gendai (Nov. 15) says that legal action on the part of Suzuki could be next.
Suzuki, a former gravure idol and singer, is a semi-regular on Tuesdays for the daily program “Gogosuma ~GOGO! Smile!~” Thus far, the program has ignored the Bunshun report on Suzuki’s affair allegations and has been covering the adultery conducted by Yuichiro Tamaki, the leader of the Democratic Party for the People.
In cases where a married person is dating someone who falsely claims to be single, the person who was deceived may file a claim for compensation for violating chastity rights, which is a tort under the civil code.
According to Gendai, as a commentator on “Gogosuma,” Suzuki has often criticized affairs involving other celebrities. With this background, many Gogosuma viewers may want her to show some gumption and file a lawsuit to prove that she really didn’t know that her partner was married.
In response to an interview by Gendai, a representative from Suzuki’s agency, Artist House Pyramid said, “We don’t know what will happen in the future, but as of now, there are no plans for a lawsuit.”
