OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police last week arrested a 28-year-old man over the alleged robbery of four wristwatches from a shop in Chuo Ward of Osaka City. The apprehension of the suspect was captured on social media.
At around 3:50 p.m. on October 16, Rikiya Iwata, allegedly posed as a customer in the taking of four luxury watches worth a total of 9.5 million yen from Watch Nian Osaka Main Store in the Shinsaibashi entertainment area.
As the suspect tried to flee with the watches, he was apprehended by a store employee, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 21).
When police officers rushed to the scene in the Shinsaibashisuji Shopping Arcade, they found Iwata struggling with the employee on the ground.
In video posted on social media, Iwata shouts to the police, “Who are you?” One officer replies, “I’m the police!” The suspect then shouts back, “Who cares, you are an idiot!”
The struggle on the ground continues. The video then shows police taking Iwata away. Officers then shout at the suspect: “Stand up! Stand up! Stand up! You! Walk!”
According to the Minami Police Station, Iwata entered the store disguised as a customer prior to the incident. After checking the watches lined up on a table, the suspect put two on his wrists and grabbed two more in his fists. He then bolted the store.
The staff member was punched in the face several times and sprayed with pepper spray by the suspect during the apprehension. However, he was not hurt in the incident.
The suspect has not revealed whether he admits to the charges, police said.
