KYOTO (TR) – He was the life of the party — until the bill came.
Kyoto Prefectural Police have arrested a 35-year-old man on charges of fraud after he allegedly attempted to dodge paying a bill of more than 100,000 yen at a high-end hostess club in the Kiyamachi business district, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 21).
Between 9:15 p.m. on June 20 and 1:30 a.m. the following day, Koichi Eguchi, drank beer and wine at the club. He also had sushi delivered to the lounge. Not only that, he bought drinks for other customers seated nearby and employees.
However, when it came time to pay the sizable tab of 137,000 yen Eguchi revealed that he only had 42 yen in his possession by laying out coins in front of staff members.
Initially, the suspect provided a number of excuses for non-payment, including that he had left his money in his hotel room. Soon after, however, he conceded that he did not have the funds to cover the bill.
“I wanted to drink so it was unavoidable,” the suspect is quoted by the Nakagyo Police Station in admitting the allegations.
