Hyogo cops investigating man behaving suspiciously in park find corpse in his home

HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police on Monday arrested a 40-year-old man during an investigation that resulted in the discovery of a corpse in his home in Kobe City, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (May 20).

At around 11:20 a.m., police entered the Kita Ward residence of Takashi Saito, of no known occupation, and discovered the decomposed body lying face-up on the first floor.

Due to the stage of decay, the approximate age and gender of the person are not known, police said.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of abandoning a corpse, Saito denied the allegations. “I think it is my mother. I think she froze to death. I didn’t abandon it,” he told police.

The day before, police received a call about a man behaving suspiciously at a nearby park. Police arriving at the scene found Saito. They searched his residence the next day.

Police are currently working to confirm the identity of the body. They are questioning Saito to learn the circumstances that led to the person’s death.
