The first woman is believed to be aged in her 50s to 80s. Her body was found in a riverbed in the town of Otofuke on February 21, reports Hokkaido TV (Feb. 22).
At around 9:00 a.m., a passerby called the police to report a person lying face-up on the riverbed of the Suzuran River, which flows through the Horaikita area of the town.
Police found the body lying on the snow on the right bank of the river. She had suffered frostbite on her arms and ankles.
There were no personal belongings that could lead to the body’s identity. A handbag was also found near the body, but there was nothing inside that could identify the woman.
The exact cause of death has not been revealed.
Of medium build, she stood approximately 150 centimeters tall. She had dyed brown hair of shorter than shoulder length.
She was wearing alack down jacket, black trousers, red gloves and a red scarf.

Four layers of pants
The discovery of the second body was on a beach in the town of Matsumae in November of last year. Police have released a photo of the clothing the woman was wearing in seeking information from the public in identifying her, reports NHK (Feb. 18).
On the afternoon of November 11, a fisherman found the body washed up on Asahi Beach and reported the discovery to police.
According to police, only the lower half of the body — approximately 90 centimeters in length — was found. Further investigation later revealed that the body was female.
The cause of death is unknown. It is believed that several months to several years have passed since the death of the person. Police are investigating whether or not there may have been any criminal activity involved in the death.
When the woman was found, she was wearing four layers of pink leggings, floral pants, black pants and khaki pants. .
