TOKYO (TR) – Four Chinese men illegally accessed Japan Post Bank accounts using virus-infected e-mails and siphoned off some 100 million yen, police said on Tuesday.
Tokyo Metropolitan Police charged the four men with illegally accessing the internet banking service of Japan Post Bank to transfer two million yen out of victims’ accounts in April, TBS News reports (Nov. 29).
Three of the four suspects have admitted to the charges, police said.
The suspects acquired account passwords from virus-infected e-mails they distributed under the bank’s name, police said.
Police are investigating the possibility that the men illegally siphoned out some 100 million yen from January to July.
