CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy over the alleged fatal stabbing of an elderly woman in Chiba City last week, reports Nippon News Network (May 12).
At around 5:15 p.m. May 11, a passerby alerted emergency services after finding 84-year-old Hachio Takahashi collapsed and bleeding on a street in Wakaba Ward.
Takahaashi, who lived near the scene of the crime, was later confirmed dead.
The following day, police arrested the boy, a third-year middle school student, on suspicion of murder. The boy is not believed to have known Takahashi.
According to police, security camera footage showed a person believed to be a juvenile walking near the crime scene just before Takahashi-san was found collapsed.
The results of an autopsy revealed that Takahashi died as a result of shock caused by loss of blood. She had been repeatedly stabbed in the back.
It was later revealed that the boy has made a statement about his motive. “I wanted to go to a juvenile detention center,” he said. “I was targeting people weaker than me.”
The boy’s father apologized. “I can only say I’m sorry,” he said, according to Fuji News Network (May 13). “As for the part about it not being too difficult, I just wonder why.”
