TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a Chinese national for participation in a card-skimming ring that targeted golfers, reports TBS News (May 6).
In December of last year, Wang Chengwen, a 41-year-old resident of Adachi Ward, allegedly used a forged cash card to withdraw 270,000 yen from an automatic-teller machine at a shopping center in Shiga Prefecture.
Five other persons have been arrested in the case.
According to police, the suspects stole goods and personal items stored at golf courses in 14 prefectures. Credit or cash cards obtained in the thefts were then “skimmed” such that duplicate cards could be made.
Police believe that the ring victimized approximately 120 persons in which the damage totaled 57 million yen.
