FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police have arrested a 65-year-old American male on drug smuggling charges at Fukuoka Airport, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 29).
On August 8, customs officials and police arrested William Fuller after finding 2.8 kilograms of stimulant drugs concealed inside a backpack he was carrying. The contraband has an estimated street value of 200 million yen.
The suspect, who has been charged with violating the Stimulants Control Law regarding importation for money-making purposes, denies the charges, telling police the backpack is not his.
Customs officials found the contraband during an x-ray inspection of the bag. The drugs were packed in bags that had been wrapped in tape and newspaper.
The suspect first boarded a flight for France from Spain earlier this month. He then traveled to Korea before landing in Fukuoka.
