TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police believe a gang of foreign thieves were behind the heist of a high-end jewelry store in Shibuya Ward on Friday, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Nov. 21).
At approximately 8:10 p.m., a group of three males entered Harry Winston, located in the Omotesando Hills mall, and assaulted a 47-year-old male employee before smashing a display case and stealing approximately 40 items, including necklaces and rings.
According to officers from the Shinjuku Police Station, the total value of lost property is estimated to be 75 million yen.
The security guard suffered minor injuries.
After the incident, the suspects, all of whom are believed to be Caucasian males, fled the scene. According to witnesses, one had a slender build and wore a baseball cap while another covered his face with a white ski mask.
Update: A total of 46 items with an estimated value of 160 million yen were stolen, reports TBS News (Nov. 22).
