Yokohama woman accused of drowning daughter in bath, strangling son unconscious

KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 43-year-old woman for drowning her daughter and choking her son unconscious at their home in Yokohama City, reports Fuji News Network (Nov. 1).

At around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the husband of Ai Kamishige alerted police to the residence in Kohoku Ward. Officers arriving at the scene found the two children collapsed inside.

Earlier that day, Uesugi is alleged to have strangled her 11-year-old son, a fifth-grade elementary school student, and drowned her daughter, 5-year-old Kaede, in the bathtub.

Kaede has since died, and the son is in a critical condition and unconscious, police said.

Upon her arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Kamishige admitted to the allegations.

According to the police, the results of an autopsy on Kaede revealed that the cause of death was drowning.

Police are questioning the members of the family, including Kamishige’s parents, who live on the third floor of the residence.
