Yakuza surrenders to Kanagawa police following car-ramming incident

KANAGAWA (TR) – A gang boss wanted for allegedly ramming his vehicle into a group of investigators in Yokohama City and fleeing the scene last week has surrendered to law enforcement, reports Nippon News Network (Apr. 30).

At around 6:30 a.m. on April 22, Satoshi Tamura, a 50-year-old boss in theĀ Inagawa-kai, allegedly crashed his vehicle into a group of investigators from the Saitama Prefectural Police as they entered his house in Matsumotocho, Kanagawa Ward.

Tamura then used the white vehicle to flee the scene heading north.

His whereabouts were unknown until Wednesday. At just after 4:00 p.m., Tamura appeared at a police station in Kawasaki City.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Tamura denied the allegations. “I did not do anything that is alleged in the charges,” the suspect was quoted.

Tamura is believed to have been involved in a murder case involving a handgun that took place in Sayama City, Saitama Prefecture two years ago.

Prior to the incident on April 22, Tamura was asked by Saitama police to be present during a search of his home. Upon arrival, he suddenly accelerated in his car into four police officers. Three of the four officers were slightly injured, police said previously.

Police plan to question Tamura regarding his motive for fleeing the scene and his suspected involvement in the murder case.
