IWATE (TR) – Iwate Prefectural Police arrested a 38-year-old woman who brandished a knife in the attempted robbery of a convenience store in Kitakami City on Tuesday.
At around 7:15 a.m., Itsumi Kato, dressed in black, allegedly showed the knife to a female store clerk. After threatening her, she demanding that he hand over cash, reports IBC Iwate Hoso (Nov. 13).
After the clerk fled, Kato fled in a car with tape covering the license plate.
A male store clerk who was in the store at the same time as the other clerk was not injured in the incident. No cash was stolen, police said.
Police identified Kato as having fled the scene based on security camera footage. At around 8:45 p.m. that same day, police apprehended her. She admitted to the charges during police questioning.
Police believe Kato acted alone and are seeking her motive.
