WAKAYAMA (TR) – Wakayama Prefectural Police have arrested a 51-year-old man over the alleged fatal stabbing of a male acquaintance at the suspect’s residence in Hidakagawacho, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Mar. 8).
At around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Toru Takahashi, a construction worker, allegedly used a knife with a 10-centimeter-long blade to repeatedly stab Taku Shinohara, 48, in the chest and left leg at his home in the Mihyose area.
Shinohara was taken to a hospital but later died, police said.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of murder on Saturday, Takahashi denied the allegations. “Shinohara was a friend of mine, and we had some money troubles,” he said.
Prior to the incident, the pair got into a dispute that led to Shinohara strangling him. “I resisted and stabbed him with a knife,” he said. “I had no intention of killing him.”
Shinohara lived in a Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture. According to police, officers arrived at the scene after receiving a call from Takahashi saying that Shinohara had broken into his house.
Upon their arrival, they found Shinohara bleeding and collapsed in the living room. Shinohara was taken to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest.
