TOKYO (TR) – The owner of a popular gyoza dumpling store in Adachi Ward has decided to shut the business down in January. One of the reasons is repeated thefts of large amounts of products.
This year, thieves have targeted Osaka Fukuchan Gyoza Tokyo Ayase on 25 occasions. “The perpetrators come again and again, and I can’t forgive them,” the owner tells Fuji News Network (Dec. 25).
At the entrance of the store, which opened two years ago, there is a sign that says the store will close on January 4, 2025. The inventory in the store is now somewhat sparse.
“They are taking out a large amount of merchandise,” the owner continues. “The business itself of the store is in a very difficult situation.”
The store’s security camera captured a person appearing in the middle of the night on November 15 with a white paper bag in one hand. He went straight to the freezer, put several items in the bag and left the store without paying.
Just before 2 a.m. on December 6, a person appeared with white and green paper bags. With the two bags full of merchandise, he left the store as is.
Six days later, a thief was holding a white paper bag as usual. However, he stopped at the entrance for a while and stared at a poster.
“We printed out the images of two thieves and posted the poster in front of the store,” the owner says.
He was undeterred. After entering the store, he put the items in a white and green paper bag and stole them brazenly. A total of 16,000 yen in merchandise was stolen over three days.
“I am very sad that we have to close our store,” the owner says. “I also feel very frustrated. I want him to turn himself in and reflect on his actions.”
