Two street touts accused in fatal beating of man in Kawasaki

KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested two 19-year-old street tours over the alleged fatal assault of a man on a street in Kawasaki City earlier this year.

At around 2:50 a.m. on August 24, the two suspects got into an altercation with the man, aged in his 50s, in the Higashidacho area of Kawasaki Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 24).

The pair are then alleged to have assaulted the man by punching and kicking him. During the fight, the man fell and hit his head.

After the incident, the victim returned home to Tokyo. However, he was hospitalized after feeling unwell. He died on September 5.

The cause of death was traumatic encephalopathy, which is a dysfunction of the brain.

Police did not reveal if the suspects admit to allegations of bodily injury resulting in death.

Prior to the incident, the touts were seeking customers for a bar near JR Kawasaki Station. The victim had been drinking at a nearby bar. When he approached the touts, the argument started.
