IBARAKI (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested three persons, including two high school students, for allegedly riding a taxi from Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward to Mito City without paying the fare of approximately 50,000 yen.
On May 29, two second-year high school students, aged 16 and 17, and an 18-year-old man of no known occupation, took a taxi from Shibuya Ward to Mito City, but exited the cab without paying the fare and highway tolls totaling 51,010 yen, reports TV Asahi (Oct. 2).
Police have not revealed whether the three have admitted to the allegations.
The three live in Ibaraki Prefecture, and are thought to have been on their way back from visiting Shibuya that day. They boarded the taxi at around 8:40 p.m. and arrived in Mito City approximately one hour and 40 minutes later, at around 10:20 p.m.
The three were identified from footage from the taxi’s dashcam camera and security cameras in the area.
