TOKYO (TR) – With the holiday season approaching, the superintendent general of the Metropolitan Police Department on Friday patrolled the Kabukicho red-light district of Shinjuku Ward to raise caution about an increase in prostitution.
After encouraging police officers at a police box, superintendent general Yoshimi Ogata patrolled the entertainment district with officers and local crime prevention volunteers, reports TBS News (Dec. 20).
Prior to the patrol, the superintendent general also inspected the Okubo Park area, where an increase in women waiting for customers for prostitution has become a problem.
“The environment surrounding young children in the Kabukicho area has changed significantly, and we have renewed our determination to prevent victimization,” Ogata said.
The Metropolitan Police Department will mobilize police officers to be on alert to undertake special security measures for the New Year holiday season to prevent street crimes and fraud.
