Tochigi man accused in fatal assault of acquaintance ‘did not intend to kill’

TOCHIGI (TR) – Law enforcement has arrested a 39-year-old man over the alleged fatal assault of an acquaintance at a residence in Utsunomiya City, reports NHK (Dec. 5).

At around 8 a.m. on Thursday, police officers working off a tip rushed to the home in the Tsurutamachi area and found Sho Nakamura, 41, collapsed on the second floor. he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police later arrested Jeong Yong-sik, 39-year-old company employee living in Utsunomiya, on suspicion of murder.

When questioned, Jeong denied the charges. “The two of us were drinking and we got into an argument over money. I definitely hit him with the bottle, but I did not intend to kill him.”

Nakamura lived in the house. Officers rushed to the scene after learning that “acquaintances had gotten into a dispute and one of them is not breathing.”

The beating, which resulted in Nakamura receiving several cuts on his face, took place over a roughly three-hour period starting at 5:00 a.m. that same day, police said.

Before the arrival of police, Jeong fled the scene in a car. He was later found in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture.

The incident occurred in a residential area about 3 kilometers northwest of Tobu Utsunomiya Station.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
