TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are searching for a suspected shoplifter who slashed the manager of a bookstore in Itabashi Ward on Saturday, reports Nippon News Network (Jan. 26).
At around 6:30 p.m., the male store manager at the bookstore, located inside a shopping center, witnessed the perpetrator man putting two or three books into a bag.
When the perpetrator left the store, the manager called out to him. A scuffle then ensued, with the perpetrator slashing the man in in one of his wrists with what appeared to be a cutter knife.
The store manager suffered a 7-centimeter-long wound that included severed tendons. The serious injuries will take more than a month to heal, police said.
The perpetrator is in his 40s. Standing about 170 centimeters tall, he is of medium build. At time of the incident, he was wearing glasses and a white mask.
Police are seeking the whereabouts of the perpetrator on suspicion of robbery resulting in injury.
