SHIMANE (TR) – Shimane Prefectural Police have arrested a 57-year-old suspect for allegedly leaving the body of his 80-year-old father at the house in the town of Mitake that they shared, reports NHK (Mar. 4).
Upon his arrest on suspicion of abandoning a corpse on March 4, Tomoya Matsuda, of no known occupation, said, “I didn’t file a death notification so that I could receive my father’s pension.”
According to the Kani Police Station, Matsuda is suspected of abandoning the body of his father, 81-year-old Kazuo, at their residence until the discovery on March 3.
At around 10:20 a.m., police received a call requesting confirmation of the Kazuo’s safety. When officers visited the home, they found him dead in a bedroom.
Kazuo is believed to died some time ago. Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
