Shiga woman accused of trying to stab female roommate through futon

SHIGA (TR) – Shiga Prefectural Police arrested a 36-year-old woman for allegedly stabbing her roommate at their residence in Otsu City on Sunday, reports the Kyoto Shimbun (Jan. 12).

At around 9 a.m., the unnamed suspect, an employee in the construction industry, allegedly used a kitchen knife with a 20-centimeter-long blade to stab the sleeping woman through her futon.

The victim was not injured in the incident, the Otsu Police Station said.

Upon her arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, the suspect partially denied the charges. “It’s true that I stabbed her with a kitchen knife, but I didn’t mean to kill her,” the suspect was quoted.

According to police, the woman woke up feeling something strange in her stomach as the incident unfolded. She then found the suspect standing next to her, holding a kitchen knife.

After the woman called police, officers rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect on the spot.

At some points during questioning, the suspect said things that didn’t make sense. Police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the incident and seeking a motive.
