SAITAMA (TR) – His chopsticks, the police seized his chopsticks.
Saitama Prefectural Police last week apprehended a suspect likely behind several thefts at an unmanned horumon shop in Fujimino City after a successful stake-out — and it was all captured in security camera footage, reports Fuji News Network (Nov. 5).
Around 3 a.m. on November 1, the suspect, hiding his face with a hooded sweatshirt and mask, enters the restaurant. He immediately looks into the nearby money box.
After opening his bag and taking out a pair of chopsticks, measuring about 30 centimeters long, he thrusts them inside to pick up cash.
However, just as he uses the light from his smartphone to get a better view inside, a police officer in a white shirt bursts into the store and tackles him against a wall.
Other officers then enter the restaurant. “Chopsticks, we’re seizing your chopsticks,” one of the officers says.
The suspect is demolition worker Daiki Misaki. The 35-year-old Misaki admitted to charges of attempted theft upon his arrest. “I didn’t have any money,” he said.
The shop owner said, “I contacted the police because probably the same person has been repeatedly breaking into the money box [since last month].”
As a result, police kept an eye on the restaurant.
The owner added, “I was really worried that I would run into them, so I was relieved [when the suspect was arrested].”
