Recruit staffers accused of drugging woman at party, raping her at hotel

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested two male employees of recruiting firm Recruit over the alleged drugging and raping of a woman met at a party last month, reports Jiji Press (Nov. 1).

Between 8:00 p.m. on October 12 and 5:00 a.m. the next day, Junya Toyokawa and Sanshiro Ishikawa, both 26, allegedly gave the woman, aged in her 20s, food and drink mixed with sleeping pills during a party at an apartment in Minato Ward and later sexually assaulted her at a hotel.

Police did not reveal whether the suspects admit to allegations of non-consensual intercourse and kidnapping for the purpose of performing an obscene acts.

According to police, the victim had been out drinking with the suspects on at least one other occasion prior to the incident.

The party, attended by a total of five persons, was hosted by Toyokawa at his residence. After the other two other persons returned home, the victim began feeling drowsy.

At around 1 a.m., Ishikawa approached the woman, who was staggering around, and took her by taxi to the hotel in Shinagawa Ward, located about three kilometers away. It is believed that Toyokawa then joined them.

Sleep-inducing substances were later detected in the system of the woman. An examination of security camera footage showed Ishikawa holding the woman as she staggered around.
