Osaka woman ‘not feeling well’ called for ambulance 251 times

OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 27-year-old from rom Sennan City for calling for an ambulance more than 200 times over the past year.

On Tuesday morning, the unnamed woman, of no known occupation, called the number 119 to request emergency services. However, police arriving at the scene arrested her after learning her condition was fine, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 22).

Upon her arrest on suspicion of obstruction of business, the suspect denied the allegations. “I don’t remember, but I just called because I wasn’t feeling well,” she said.

This was not the first time she has made such a claim. According to the Sennan Police Station, the woman called for an ambulance 251 times between April 2023 and this month.

When she made the calls, she either falsely claimed to be unwell or she feigned being ill by collapsing in the street, whereby she had a passersby make a call.

When ambulance crew members arrived in response to a passerby’s call, the woman refused to be transported. “I’m just taking a break,” she said. On some days, she occupied ambulance teams for up to three hours.

Police say these actions were a fraudulent obstruction of the work of ambulance teams due to unnecessary dispatch requests.
