NARA (TR) – Three men from Osaka Prefecture are believed to be behind a spate of burglaries in Nara Prefecture that have targeted home safes, police have revealed.
Kazusa Arai, 23, Takenaka Aomaro, 25, and Sekine Kotaro, 26, have been accused of theft and trespassing.
On the night of June 6, Sekine allegedly broke into the home of a woman in her 70s living in Yamatotakada City, Nara Prefecture, and stole 16 million yen in cash from her safe.
Arai and Takenaka are suspected of stealing a safe containing cash and precious metals from the home of a company executive in Yamatotakada City on August 5.
When asked how he found out about the safe, Arai reportedly said, “I got information from an acquaintance and went to rob it.”
The three men were former colleagues at a restaurant in Osaka Prefecture. All of them admit to the allegations. “It was to make quick money,” one of the suspects was quoted.
Since June, there have been five other similar incidents in which thieves targeted safes in Yamatotakada and the neighboring Kashihara City.
Police are now investigating whether the same trio was behind the other crimes.
