Osaka cops launch manhunt after woman fatally stabbed

OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police launched a manhunt after a woman was stabbed to death in an apartment in Osaka City on Sunday.

Around 10:20 p.m., a resident of an apartment in Higashisumiyoshi Ward called police to report that someone had been stabbed, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Nov. 11).

According to police, the woman, believed to be aged in her 50s, was found lying face-up in a corridor on the third floor of the building. She had been stabbed multiple times in the abdomen.

She was later confirmed dead after being taken to hospital.

“I heard a woman scream,” the person who made the call told police. “So, I went outside my apartment and saw a man on top of her and swinging a knife down.”

The man then fled the scene, police said.

The incident occurred in a residential area about 1.1 kilometers west of Kire-Uriwari Station on the Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line.

In addition to seeking the whereabouts of the man, police are working to confirm the woman’s identity. The case is being treated as murder.
