Organized crime cop resigns over online casino wagering

FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police have sent papers to prosecutors on a male police inspector in Kitakyushu City who placed wagers on online casinos, reports Jiji Press (Feb. 21).

On February 21, police sent papers on the inspector from the Kitakyushu District Organized Crime Investigation Division to the prosecutor’s office.

Police also imposed a one-month suspension as disciplinary punishment. The unnamed inspector resigned the same day.

According to the Inspector’s Office, the inspector converted a total of about 500,000 yen into cryptocurrency assets and deposited them into overseas online casino sites between August 2022 and August last year.

He bet a total of about 8.9 million yen, mainly on slots. When questioned, he said, “I was aware that it was illegal, but I continued because I thought it would be okay to bet about 20 yen per time.”
