NARA (TR) – Nara Prefectural Police have arrested a 42-year-old man after he was found to have been living with the corpse of his father in Koriyama City, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (April 26).
According to police, the man, of no known occupation, left the body of his father, aged 75, at their residence between the end of February and March 6.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of abandoning a corpse on Tuesday, the man admitted to the the allegations. “While I was at a pachinko parlor, my father died,” the Koriyama Police Station quoted the man.
He went on, “I didn’t report it to anyone because I thought my other family members would blame me.”
On March 6, a sister of the suspect visited the residence after not being able to contact her father. After finding her father’s body inside, she alerted police.
At the time of the discovery, the whereabouts of the suspect were not known. However, police located him in Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture around noon on Monday.
