Nagano cops arrest man suspected in stabbing of 3 persons at JR Nagano Station

NAGANO (TR) – Nagano Prefectural Police on Sunday arrested a male suspect who was on the run after stabbing three persons, one fatally, in front of JR Nagano Station in Nagano City last week.

According to the Nagano Chuo Police Station, the suspect, aged in his 40s, lives in Nagano City. He was transferred to police custody just after 7:30 a.m., reports TBS News (Jan. 26).

Around 8 p.m. on January 22, the perpetrator attacked two men and one woman with a knife in front of JR Nagano Station as they waited for a bus. Hiroyoshi Maruyama, a 49-year-old resident of Nagano city, was later confirmed dead at a hospital.

Another man, 37, and a woman, 46, were left with serious and minor injuries to their backs, police said.

The perpetrator fled after the crime. The two injured people said they did not know the perpetrator.

At 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, a large number of reporters gathered at the police station. The man believed to be the perpetrator entered through a door while escorted by investigators. He entered wearing a blue jumper and with his head bowed.

According to investigators, the suspect thus far has been accused of attempted murder in the stabbing of the 46-year-old woman.
