HOKKAIDO (TR) – An elderly man with a knife broke into a government office in Nemuro City on Thursday. After police arrested him, he said, “I have something to talk about regarding the Northern Territories issue,” reports Fuji News Network (Dec. 18).
Around 3 p.m., an employee at the Nemuro Regional Development Bureau called police “Someone has brought a knife [to the office],” the caller said.
Police officers who rushed to the scene arrested the man, aged in his 70s, on the second floor of the office for violating the Sword and Firearms Control Law.
There were no injuries in the incident, police said.
A witness said, “The man was screaming loudly. I thought it was bad. I held down his right arm where he was holding the knife.”
The man told the employee, “I have something to talk about regarding the Northern Territories issue.”
Police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
