Man wanted for theft barricades himself inside Moto-Azabu residence

TOKYO (TR) – A man wanted for theft was arrested after he barricaded himself inside his residence in Minato Ward on Monday, police said, reports TBS News (Oct. 9).

At just before 7:00 p.m., officers with a warrant to arrest the man, aged in his 50s and believe to be a foreigner, visited his residence inside an apartment building in the Moto-Azabu area of the ward. “I’ll burn this place down,” the suspect reportedly told police from behind the door in barricading himself inside.

Police then requested that 13 fire engines arrive at the scene. At just before 9:00 p.m., a cutting tool was used to open the door. After the suspect was apprehended, fire officials found some burned garbage inside.

There were no injuries in the incident, police said.
